# Maintain a private dock and boat lift

Build a service log around the installed system and local conditions.

Ask the installer for a maintenance plan at handover. It should identify the exact dock, lift, anchors, fasteners and electrical equipment. Keep the manuals with the drawings. Generic advice cannot set a service interval for an unidentified system.

## Make a baseline record

Photograph connections, piling, shore access, lift supports and the boat in its approved position. Record visible corrosion or movement. Keep warranty documents and the installer’s written operating limits. This gives the service team a useful comparison when a fault appears.

## Look before you use

Check for loose decking, damaged edges, unusual movement and obstructions. Stop using an affected area if you find a defect. Keep people away from a damaged lift. Ask a qualified marine service provider to investigate; do not enter the water near electrical equipment to inspect it yourself.

Lift inspection must follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Cable, hydraulic and drive-on systems have different service tasks. ShoreStation and ShoreMaster show why the installed model matters: both offer product families rather than a universal lift. Ask the dealer which manual applies to your serial number.

## Plan for local conditions

Ask how storms, ice, flood debris, salt and changing water levels affect your system. Confirm whether seasonal removal is required and who does it. A low-maintenance product claim does not remove the need to inspect connections, anchoring and shore access. EZ Dock’s modular system still needs a site-specific installation and operating plan.

## Keep a service log

Record the date, observation, photograph, action and service provider. Close each defect only when the responsible person confirms the repair. Keep electrical work with a qualified electrician and ask what inspection rules apply locally.

Before you change the boat, berth layout or accessory load, ask the original designer or supplier to review the system. Do not assume unused deck space means spare structural capacity.

## Questions

### How often should I service a lift?

Use the installed model’s manual and the service plan for the site. Ask the supplier to put the interval and tasks in writing.
